Fight Global Warning By Selecting Latest Energy Efficient LG HDTVs

December 30, 2010

Do you own an LG HDTV? If not, maybe you should consider buying one. They are one of the largest makers, with plasma and conventional LCDs as well as the newer LED LCD sets. Many of them have features that can significantly cut the amount of power it takes to watch TV. Let’s see how the latest energy efficient LG HDTVs do this.

Plasma televisions use more electrical power than other flat panel televisions, though they are more efficient than comparable sized tube televisions. Conventional LCD televisions use significantly less electricity than plasma sets. Since LCDs do not produce light, they require a backlight. Until recently, all LCD televisions used fluorescent lights for backlight.

An exciting new type of LCD television is the LED LCD television, which uses LEDs instead of fluorescent lights for backlight. LG sells a number of LED LCD televisions. They are thinner and lighter than conventional LCDs, and use substantially less power because of the greater efficiency of LEDs as a light source, compared to fluorescent lights. Televisions that use LEDs directly without LCDs are in development but are not yet a major market presence.

Many LG televisions are Energy Star qualified. This means that they use at least 30% less power than the average comparable television. The Energy Star label on any product is an indicator that selecting this product is an energy efficient choice.

Many LG televisions also have the Intelligent Sensor Technology. This will adjust the amount of backlighting to be appropriate to the level of ambient light as measured by the sensor. Reducing the amount of backlight also reduces the power requirements.

Smart Energy Saving is another feature of many LG televisions. This includes the sensor mentioned above and the ability to set a video mode that fits the current usage of the TV. The video can be entirely muted, which saves a lot of energy, and several other choices reduce power requirements.

LG TVs have many other exciting features that we have not discussed. There is more to life than efficiency. But efficiency is a good thing to have, just another reason for the TV shopper to check out the latest energy efficient LG HDTVs.
