LCD TVs versus LED TVs

February 27, 2011

LCD (liquid crystal display) Television sets use Liquid crystal display technology for making graphics. Liquid crystal display tvs are actually less heavy as well as flatter (therefore the name “flatscreen TV”) than old-fashioned. CRTs (cathode ray tubes).

LCD Televisions became popular once building costs were becoming lower. Throughout the year 2007, more Liquid crystal display Televisions were sold than old-fashioned CRTs world wide. They’re by far the most widely manufactured and sold type of Television.

LCDs also come with a variety of downsides, new and emerging technologies are solving these drawbacks. How do LCD tv sets work? These Tv sets produce black and coloured images by sorting white light out of your photo. The light is provided by a series of CCFLs (cold cathode fluorescent lamps) at the rear of the display. An amazing amount of individual LCD shutters (millions of them) open and close to regulate the amount of (white) light which is coming through. Those LCD shutters even have a color filter to eliminate everything besides the RGB (red, green or blue) portion of the light.

The first LCDs had terrible image quality, such as, but not limited to weak contrast ratio and filthy colors. As LCDs evolved more and more, their photo quality became better and better. The 1st LCDs had pretty slow response times. For TV in the states, to get 60 frames per second, every single should be lit for 17ms.In the early 2000s, Liquid crystal display monitors with response times of about 20ms began appearing. That was more than enough for computer uses, however not for commercial Television.

Current developments Producers are attempting to strengthen color reproduction. Right now, LCDs can deliver all sRGB colorations, but some companies want to display more colors than that.LCD Alternatives – LED TVsLED Tv sets are getting more and more popular. LED TVs use LED backlighting as an alternative to CCFLs. They have many advantages over LCD Tv units.

Without a doubt, each one of these advantages come with a price. LED Tv units are more expensive in comparison with LCD Televisions.
